Speaking

Here are some talks that I have given at conferences over the years:

PAX East 2020 - “The Infinite Storytelling Engine of Professional Wrestling” #

I was invited to guest on this panel after several panelists dropped out – it turns out Feburary 2020 was a pretty bad time to be going to conventions! The panel was focused on examining the story structures and tropes of professional wrestling and how they might be applied to design of narratives in digital and tabletop games.

Me presenting at GDC 2018

GDC 2018 - “Room for Everyone: The Rec Room approach to community VR”>

GDC 2018 - “Room for Everyone: The Rec Room approach to community VR” #

I gave this talk along with Cameron Brown, the creative director and CCO at Rec Room. We discussed Rec Room’s approach to live development and community building, along with the ways that those two things are inextricably linked. GDC has kindly made both the slides and a full recording of the talk available online for free.

GeekGirlCon / OrcaCon 2015 - “Anyone can make board games (and you should too)!”>

GeekGirlCon / OrcaCon 2015 - “Anyone can make board games (and you should too)!” #

I gave this talk as part of a panel along with Nikole Jekich, Matthew Moore, and Bea Flowers. While it featured tons of practical advice on how to take a board game through the prototyping and platesting process, it was mostly intended as a hefty encouragement that people take that step and make their ideas into playable realities. We gave this talk twice in 2015, once at GeekGirlCon and once at OrcaCon.
